November Prairie Update

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18

Thoughts from Gayle...

Remembering Doug

Thanks so much for the thoughts, prayers and kind gestures after Doug’s passing. We are all still trying to figure out how to continue “Living the Story” without Doug by our side, but walking this path with a wide and supportive community is helpful and a blessing.

New PCCE Staff Member

I am very pleased to introduce our newest PCCE staff member: Hugo VanderHoek. Hugo has a wealth of experience as both a teacher and leader in Alberta and BC Christian schools and has a passion for seeing Christian schools thrive. Hugo currently is the principal at Providence Christian Schools where his position is not quite full-time, so he has some space to add the PCCE responsibilities. His main role at PCCE will be to serve as a support and consultant for our independent schools who have some specific and unique needs. 2018 Teachers' Convention

Approximately 340 educators and support staff gathered for our annual Teachers’ Convention at Gateway Christian School in Red Deer. We enjoyed keynote speaker, Carlos Whittaker, who was able make us laugh while encouraging us to reflect on our own lives and what we do with all the moments we are given. Workshops were also appreciated by participants. As always, the singing was a highlight and, in particular, the Friday morning “Worship Huddle” - have a LISTEN (Thanks to Drayton Christian for the video)
Next year's convention will be October 24-25, 2019 in Edmonton.

Teaching for Transformation 101

For the 2 days prior to Teachers’ Convention 40 teachers from 15 schools immersed themselves in Teaching for Transformation. They engaged in a wide variety of learning experiences while articulating their Deep Hope for their students and beginning to design a Storyline for their classrooms. Part 2 will be held in early 2019.

Senior Leadership Enrichment Seminar

Along with our colleagues in BC, we hosted the first Senior Leadership Enrichment Seminar for about 15 Executive Directors and Superintendents. We met for a jam-packed 24 hours of learning, encouraging, working and eating together. Our speaker was
Dr. Melanie Humphreys, the president of The King’s University, who spoke to us about the TKU journey toward an inclusive learning community. The group will meet again in April in BC.

PCCE Playbook

One aspect of our Playbook is updating our communications platform.

Follow @Prairiecentre on Twitter for updates on events and worthwhile articles.

We have a new website at www.pcce.ca. Our goal is to use this space for collegial conversations, sharing of resources & best practices and as a repository of helpful resources. All teachers, school-based leaders, administrative staff and board members have access to the “members only” section. While we are still working on the “usability” we encourage you to log in and verify/update your information. As more features become available, we will let you know. You should have received your login information on
November 1, 2018 via your school email address.
If you did not receive this login info please let the PCCE Office know.
