October Prairie Update |
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:15-16 |
Doug MonsmaIt is with deep sorrow that I tell you that earlier this week, my brother and colleague, Doug passed away. For almost 2 years he had been battling a brain tumour and on Tuesday his earthly life ceased and in the words of friend Tim VanSoelen, “We are so happy for Doug as he is now fully alive in the Story he was so passionate about telling.” To read the obituary and find the Memorial information click HERE. PCCE’s Membership and Dues StructureAt our recent PCCE Board Meeting, the Board approved the establishment of a Task Force to look at PCCE’s membership and dues structure. We are refining the committee’s mandate, structure and timeline, but if you would like to be considered for membership on the Task Force, please contact me ASAP. Invitation to ActionYou may be reading media reports about the correspondence sent to independent schools concerning their “Safe and Caring” school policies. The non-compliant sections flagged by the government are far-reaching, overly-prescriptive and of great concern to all people of faith who are connected to Christian schools. For specific information, please refer to this ARTICLE. There is also more information available at these LINKS. Contacting your MLA, the Minister of Education and the PremierI met with John Jagersma from AISCA this week to discuss a response and the recommendation is for all people associated with Christian schools (independent, alternative) to contact their MLA, the Minister of Education and the Premier to express their alarm, dismay and deep concern with the government’s action. People associated with alternative programs can explain how even though their school has a compliant policy, they are very concerned about the government’s intolerance toward basic Christian beliefs and the expression of those beliefs in our society. People associated with independent schools have a much more direct and immediate concern to express to their government officials. School leaders: Please discuss the issues with your leadership team/board and determine the best course of action for your community at this very important time in our educational/political life. |

Christian Schools Canada ConferenceIt was great to see so many of you at the Christian Schools Canada conference last week. The call to be a faithful presence in our communities is an important and challenging one that will continue to stick with us as we do our work in our local contexts. For those who like to plan ahead, the 2020 conference will be held in September in Vancouver. |
International Christian Education ConferenceLooking ahead: Our sister organization in Australia is holding an International Christian Education Conference next summer and PCCE is investigating organizing a study tour post-conference to visit and learn from the innovative practices of our Aussie colleagues.
