February Prairie Update

Thoughts from Gayle...

THE DEEP FREEZE

Canadians are notorious for talking about the weather (check this CLIP from This Hour Has 22 Minutes), but it seems that this February has really warranted the talk! i realize, however, that I don’t really have much to complain about as I was in Zambia for  the worst of it.

As you may know, PCCE has a partnership through EduDeo Ministries with a group of Christian schools in Zambia. Over the years, we have supported the school leadership in their implementation of TfT, as well as a variety of other leadership aspects. This year, I had the chance to work with our partners, along with Karen Gerritsma, taking the next steps in their journey in Christian education.

It was a great experience and I think that I learned as much as I taught. In particular, the days visiting schools were eye-opening. Have a look at this BLOG for a day-by-day overview, as well as some photos

A special note to teachers: if you are interested in learning more about EduDeo and seeing work being done in Zambia, EduDeo is sponsoring a “Discover & Learn Trip” in July. The deadline is MARCH 1, so contact EduDeo ASAP to indicate your interest.

If you decide to attend, let us know and we can talk about how PCCE can support you!

BIG CHANGES AT OUR AGM THIS YEAR!!

I am really excited about the NEW Annual General Meeting format we have planned! This is the once-a-year opportunity for the PCCE community to gather together (April 13 in Calgary). As in the past, we still will require  2 participants (a board representative and an educator)...

BUT THINGS ARE A CHANGIN’!

Our hope is that  in addition to your 2 representatives mentioned above ...

that school communities will  also send a team of participants (both board members and educators) to learn together, to share stories of God’s good work and to encourage & be encouraged by the PCCE community.

The formal meeting will still happen (we need to approve the budget, appoint new board members etc),BUT there will also be   WORKSHOPS! We have an exciting slate of speakers and topics...

Pulling the Curtain Back on School Culture

2019 TEACHERS' CONVENTION

Some of you have been asking about the dates for next year’s Teachers’ Convention. We will be gathering in Edmonton on October 24-25.
If you want to be able to determine this date in the future: find Thanksgiving on the calendar, and then Convention is the Thursday and Friday in the full week following Thanksgiving.

SAVE THE DATE: Business & Development Conference

Our partner organization in BC is holding their annual Business & Development Conference on

April 8-9, 2019.

This conference would be beneficial to business/finance managers, promotions officers and board members. Everyone

women in leadership in christian schools

The Center for the Advancement of Christian Education (CACE) has published a series of blog posts on Women in Leadership in Christian Schools. Here is ONE in the series that would be worth discussing at a staff or Board meeting.

THE ROLE OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS

Cardus has recently published two reports dealing with role of independent schools in Canada. Download them here:

Mapping Independent School Associations in Canada report. It explored the way in which associations strengthen the voice of the independent school sector, increase capacity, and promote values and standards among the diverse forms of quality non-government K–12 education.

Better is Possible report that looks at various studies that have found education systems with a strong independent school sector have higher student achievement, more parental satisfaction, and better financial management. In short, a strong independent sector improves the whole education system.
